The government has promised to boost the number of front line police officers and address gang violence as part of its major pre-Budget law and order package.
It's investing more than $560 million over four years into the police and wants to ensure there is at least once cop for every 480 New Zealanders.
National Party police spokesperson Mark Mitchell told Morning Report the package does not stop people reoffending.
