A leading Covid-19 modeller says the latest increase in case numbers across Aotearoa may be the start of a serious wave.
Canterbury University mathematician Michael Plank predicts daily cases could easily reach 20,000.
Most cases in the first Omicron wave earlier this year were people in their 20s and 30s, but now there are more cases in older age groups.
Professor Plank says this could lead to a higher number of Covid-19 related hospitalisations.
