As a second wave of Covid-19 washes across New Zealand, a University of Otago immunologist says the elephant in the room is it's our most vulnerable people being hit hardest.
Dianne Sika-Paotonu, who also heads the Pacific Office at Otago, says new variants of Covid-19 will continue to cause pressure on health systems, and while people might want the pandemic to be over, it isn't going anywhere.
The Government will this afternoon give a briefing on managing Covid-19 and flu outbreaks, after the Prime Minister said people should wear masks, get boosters, and isolate when sick.
Dr Sika-Paotonu spoke to Corin Dann.
