The mayor of Waitaki District says it has been a pretty wild night for many residents as severe weather hit the area overnight.
Gary Kircher told Morning Report about half a dozen homes were evacuated in Omarama overnight due to flooding risk.
The Omarama Holiday Park was also evacuated.
