Steve Bannon in court on contempt charges

From Morning Report, 8:25 am on 20 July 2022

Steve Bannon, a former top advisor to Donald Trump, is in court today facing contempt charges for refusing to comply with the investigation into the attack on the US Capitol building.

Investigators are particularly keen to learn the contents of two phone calls Bannon had with Trump on 5 January, a day before the insurrection.

Bannon has pleaded not guilty to the two contempt charges, which are classed as misdemeanors and carry a mandatory minimum of 30 days in jail.
