Auckland deputy mayor on council's $270m budget hole

Auckland Council says there is a $270m hole in its books for the next financial year, caused by the pressures of rising inflation and interest rates.

The Council is said to have the "financial flexibility" to respond to the budget situation, but it will require tough choices and trade-offs.

We wanted to ask the mayor, Wayne Brown, how he planned to negotiate the $270m shortfall, but his office delegated that job to his deputy mayor, Desley Simpson.

She spoke to Corin Dann.
