A waste reduction organisation is urging people to be switched on to recycling this Christmas.
According to The Packaging Forum, New Zealanders generate approximately 30 percent more waste in December and January, which equates to five kilograms per person.
The group says a lot of the rubbish that ends up in landfill is recyclable packaging such as wrapping paper, soft plastic wrapping and cardboard.
The Packaging Forum chief executive Rob Langford spoke to Gyles Beckford.
