The Finance Minister says the scrapping of a suite of government policies yesterday is not just about saving money.
The RNZ -TVNZ merger, the social insurance scheme, the hate speech bill and biofuels legislation are either on hold or scrapped completely.
Grant Robertson told Morning Report it's important for the government to make sure its focus is on the tough economic climate New Zealanders are facing.
Robertson said some policies, such as the social insurance scheme he championed, are not gone, but put off until financial conditions improve.
He said it gives the government more time to reduce the effect of the cost of living crisis.
