Aucklanders are heeding warnings to stay of roads.
Most motorways and aterial routes, normally clogged at this time are quiet with traffic flowing freely.
However, traffic is picking up on the Harbour Bridge, with limited lanes open.
Waka Kotahi says the bridge is likely to open and close throughout the day as weather changes.
There are moderate winds and rain in central parts of the city but the worst is still predicted to come.
