Emergency Department nurses at Whangārei Hospital were so desperate for staff at the height of the flu season, they asked the hospital to bring in army medics to cover shifts.
The request was made in a formal health and safety complaint the nurses made to the hospital in September last year, that has just been released under the Official Information Act.
Association of Salaried Medical Specialists executive director Sarah Dalton, said the complaint shows the depth of stress staff were working under.
She spoke to Kim Hill.
