The Gore District Council met publicly yesterday for the first time since it was revealed last month that Mayor Ben Bell and chief executive Stephen Parry are no longer speaking.
The council canvassed the relationship between its most senior elected and unelected officials and agreed to undertake an independent review to find ways to restore confidence in the council.
Councillors also moved to formally remove Mr Bell from the committee which oversees the performance of Mr Parry, and to appoint an intermediary for the two men.
The latter was successful, but Mr Bell argued the former was not possible under local government law and he will be remaining on the Chief Executive Appraisal Committee.
