Former Prime Minister Helen Clark, film director James Cameron, and president of the International Science Council Sir Peter Gluckman are members of a global commission advocating for a 'new way of doing science.'
Ms Clark co-chairs the International Science Council's commission, which has released a report at a political forum in New York.
It calls for investment in a 'big science approach' which prioritises sustainability, as part of a bid to speed up progress on the UN's sustainable development goals.
Sir Peter Gluckman spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
