Labour is calling the police pay deal a shock saying officers deserve more for putting their lives on the line. The bitter and more than year long pay dispute has ended with an independent arbitrator ruling in favour of the government's offer. It includes a $5000 wage increase, plus another 4 percent increase in July and again next year. Overall it's about two and half percent below what the union was prepared to accept and Labour's police spokesperson Ginny Anderson says officers are gutted.
