Tribute to Louie Knuxx - Tune in at 3:30

The New Zealand hip-hop community is in mourning after it was reported last night that local rapper and writer Todd Williams, who was known as Louie Knuxx has died.

Circumstances surrounding his death are not yet known.

Getting his start with New Plymouth hip hop outfit Dirtbag District, before graduating to Breakin Wreckwordz, and then serving as the elder statesman of the Young, Gifted and Broke collective, Louie Knuxx has an extensive history of producing unvarnished reality rap music in this country.

4:00 The Mixtape: The Panthers writers Tom Hern and Nua Finau

While it's taken 14 years to bring to the screen, the release is timely for TVNZ's new series about the Polynesian Panther Party that fought for the rights of the Pacific Island and Māori communities at a time of increasing racial-targeting from the Government and Police Force.

The Panthers is set in 1974, three years after a group of young Polynesian street-gangsters and university students who'd formed a revolutionary movement group. The Party sought to protect the Polynesian community from racial discrimination, prejudice and social inequality.

Music is an important part of the series, and a full-length album of original music by Troy Kingi, choicevaughan, and Diggy Dupé, along with an array of other featured artists is out now.

The Panthers TVNZ Series is out August 15th (first episode airs that night on TV One and all episodes up OnDemand) https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/the-panthers

Writers of the series Tom Hern and Nua Finau join Charlotte to chat about the how to show came together, its importance, and the incredible soundtrack on this episode of The Mixtape.
