2.10 Romy on dealing with devastating loss through dance music
Romy Madley Croft cut her teeth in music as a member of the London-based indie pop trio The XX. The group formed in 2005 when Oliver Sim, Jamie Smith, and Romy began making music together in high school.
In 2009, the trio won the Mercury Prize for best album in the UK and Ireland, recognising their unique debut album xx, which also went platinum in England. Now the lead guitarist and singer has begun a new solo project releasing her debut album Mid Air on September 8.
Romy talks to Maggie Tweedie about how big moments of grief inspired an uplifting dance record full of emotive club classics.

Toni Huata (Ngāti Kahungunu, Rongowhakaata) is an artist in every sense of the word. Her talents range from acting, singing, composing and directing to championing the work of others through her work as Kaihautū Puoro Māori/Director Māori Music at SOUNZ.
Maggie Tweedie spoke to Toni Huata about her many musical influences. The Huata whanau's musical legacy and how her Uncle Canon Wi Te Tau Huata came to write one of Aotearoa's most famous anthems internationally, the waiata, Tutira Mai Nga Iwi.
