1.20  Moana Maniapoto travels with The Tribe to record indigenous voices

Moana & the Tribe have just released ONO, a project that builds on their musical work fusing traditional Māori instruments and karakia (incantations) with hip hop and contemporary sound.

Musician and documentary maker Moana Maniapoto joins Charlotte Ryan to talk about the album that took the band around the world, returning to places they had performed in the past, and connecting with indigenous wāhine to record language and culture through music.

2.15   Jurassic 5’s Chali 2na: ‘I was born around the time when hip hop hit, and I thank God for that!’

Chali 2na sits in his backyard in LA, smoking a joint and finishing a painting he’s been working on for some time, while chatting with Maggie Tweedie. He uses spray cans on the monsterous 2.4 metre wide, 1.2 metre tall canvas - a medium he's used to bring his vibrant creations to life since he was a kid.

This December, he will return as part of the Summer Haze festival in Tauranga, performing with his band, The House of VIBE. In his conversation with Maggie, Chali 2na reflects on the 30th anniversary of Jurassic 5, the alternative hip hop collective that saw his iconic bass-bariton voice rise to fame.
