The global chart-topping success of The Naked and Famous’ 2010 single ‘Young Blood’ took the noise pop quintet around the world, and visits home for the Auckland-formed outfit have been few and far between.
“We live in Los Angeles now, so getting home is rarer for us,” Thom Powers admits.
“Now we’ve kind of all settled in Echo Park and Silverlake, which is like a central part of LA, and there’s this hub of Kiwis that hang out,” Alisa Xayalith adds. “So there’s Sam [McCarthy], ex-Kids of 88, and then there’s Joel Little, and then there’s Ella [Yelich-O'Connor, Lorde] who’s just moved out there, and Broods are moving out there. So it feels cool, it feels like we have a great community of Kiwis hanging out now.”
Back on home turf for a main stage set at the inaugural Auckland City Limits, the co-front people talk to Sam Wicks about readying album number three.
