VIDEO PREMIERE: Beachware reveal first single from debut album

From RNZ Music, 10:00 am on 9 April 2020

RNZ Music is proud to present Beachware’s new single ‘The Arcade’. It’s the first single from the Auckland band's upcoming debut album.

Beachware have been making music together since mid 2017, starting out as a group of friends who wanted to be part of a relaxed, DIY project.

The ‘DIY project’ has grown into something bigger with the release of some cracking singles, including ‘Want Somebody' and ‘Respite’, and their debut EP Twin Coast Disc Drive.

The band also won RNZ’s 2019 Christmas song competition with their track ‘Take Away The Tree’.

Their new single ‘The Arcade’ is the first from their forthcoming debut album, which is due out later this year.

The track was recorded at Auckland’s famed Roundhead Studios, ‘The Arcade’ is a slice of alt-indie-pop, balancing fast and energetic guitar, three-part vocals, double-time keys, and in the words of the band, “The fastest arpeggiator setting we could find!”

This is good ole’ Kiwi power-pop at its finest!

‘The Arcade’ is about a friendship/romantic relationship falling apart. “It's about being mature and knowing it's not one person to blame,” the band say, “Maybe it's the other person who's really at fault?! Nothing seems straightforward when love is involved, and sometimes the search for it can take a few turns.”

Beachware are Rob Hartnell, Alexandra Selkirk-Hanna, Phoenix Guava, Julia Morris and James McDonald.
