Storm causes floods across lower North Island

Waka shifted by the storm outside Pūtiki Marae.

The Marae's wharenui (meeting house) lies below ground level and during the flood had water as high as 60cm up its interior pillars.

A man helps clear away mud from the back of his neighbours property. A creek at the back of the garden burst, coating the area in mud up to the house's backdoor.

Council inspectors are assessing houses in flood prone areas and checking whether they are safe for the residents to enter.
