The Wikileaks founder's seven-year stay in a London embassy is over. Julian Assange took refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy in 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden over a sexual assault case.
The case has long been dropped, but overnight London police went into the building and dragged him out, after Ecuador's government withdrew its offer of asylum. Assange was promptly convicted of skipping bail in 2012, and now awaits sentencing.
His detention paves the way for his extradition to the United States on allegations of leaking classified military documents in 2010.
