Representatives from 14 finalist schools and tertiary institutions were at the ceremony at Te Papa on June 25, with Tauranga's Otumoetai Intermediate taking out the top prize in the Prime Minister's Education Excellence Awards. It was also a finalist in three award categories. The judges said the school deserved recognition for taking a hard look at student achievement and for setting up highly effective mentoring systems for teacher development to drive achievement up.
