The King and the Arab Spring
Morocco has so far avoided the turmoil that has led to the revolutions and bloody regime changes of some of its Arab neighbours. Morocco is run on strict Islamic lines, and its King, Mohammed VI is said to be a descendant of the Prophet Mohammed. The BBC's John Laurenson travelled to Morocco to find out how the King has had to cede some of his powers to the people, and how this will change the nature of religion in the country, where until recently the King was known as ‘sacred or holy" but still retains the title of ‘Commander of the Faithful’.
