If you research anything in New Zealand, sooner or later his name will crop up - but who knows much about Alexander Turnbull, apart from the fact he gave his name to one of our great libraries? Simon Morris talks to Chief Librarian of the Alexander Turnbull Library Chris Szekely and Rachel Underwood, President of the Friends of the Turnbull Library, which is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the gift of Turnbull collection to the state. Centenary events are launched On 28 June, the Hon. Grant Robertson will host the Friends of the Turnbull Founder Lecture, ‘Books and their Readers’, given by Lydia Wevers. This will be followed by the launch of the Turnbull centenary celebrations in Parliament’s Grand Hall. The launch marks a 30-month period of celebrations, culminating with the centenary of library’s opening in 2020.
