Kaikōura is pumping this summer with tourist numbers the best they've been for several years according to the district's mayor.
The destination town has been recovering from a tough few years. It had a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in 2016 followed by the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions locking overseas tourists out.
