Sachie Mikawa
Wellington is a famously Fringe sort of town, particularly at this time of the year. The range of the Capital's New Zealand Fringe Festival is always wide - this year saw shows called Women Drinking Hemlock, Circus of the Night and Comedian of the Year 2069. But Fish Saw seems to be something else again. It's a unique theatre piece created by a team of artists from Japan, Argentina and the US. It premiered in Buenos Aires, Argentina, before travelling the world. It's been everywhere, apparently - everywhere but Wellington New Zealand. This is odd because Sachie Mikawa has lived in Wellington with her theatrical and life-partner Trent H Baumann, for the past four years. Fish Saw finally makes its debut here - at Wellington's Bats Theatre on 28 March, and then in Auckland on 4 April. It's been described as "magic realism meets Studio Ghibli". There's a clown, animation, a talking fish and plenty of noodles! Sachie Mikawa and Trent Baumann talk about it with Simon Morris.
