Ngāti Kahungunu Composer and Performing arts tutor and mentor Tama Huata died on February 11th, 2015.
He was the founder of the Kahurangi Māori Dance Company who toured around the world, his legacy is in the many young people he taught.
To honour and pay tribute to māori composers and artists, he developed the Waiata Māori Music Awards in 2011.
In 2012, Justine Murray visited him at the Kahurangi Performing Arts Centre, Hastings to talk about his life, his whanau and his love of Kapahaka.
