New Zealand's Speaker Trevor Mallard says MPs have a disproportionate amount of contact with parliamentarians from Europe and need to work more with their Pacific neighbours.
The Speaker led a delegation of four MPs to Tonga and Fiji over five days in what he hopes will become annual visits to Pacific countries.
He told Daniela Maoate-Cox that New Zealand is 'of the Pacific' and has to be 'part of the Pacific' and doing that properly means building better relationships with Pacific countries.
This interview is part of a series on the Speaker-led delegation to Tonga and Fiji. The full coverage can be found here.
