The articulation of identity is a key focus of Makanaka Tuve's research on the experiences of queer Africans in Aotearoa New Zealand.  As a practice-led researcher it also happens to be a deeply personal subject for her.

Makanaka, or Maka, is a researcher, cultural producer, a doctoral candidate and runs a collective wellness practice, Sesa Mathlo Apothecary - she's well known to wear many hats.

In this third episode of a four-part series on conversations with black women about their experiences making careers for themselves in New Zealand, Kadambari Raghukumar deep dives into navigating race, culture and identity and how these women have come to be a source of inspiration in the diaspora.
