Episode 151 features an interview with esteemed American bass player, Harvey Brooks talking about the life and music of the over-looked American folk singer, Karen Dalton. Harvey produced Karen Dalton’s 2nd album In My Own Time in 1971. He also played bass on seminal albums by Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, the Super Session album with Mike Bloomfield and many more. Karen Dalton was a troubled musician who was active in the Greenwich Village folk scene in the 60’s and despite being championed by the likes of singer – songwriter Fred Neil she never broke through. Bob Dylan who often played with Dalton (before he himself was discovered), described Dalton as having a voice like Billie Holliday and played guitar like Jimmy Reed. In My Own Time never sold and was out of print for decades before it was re-issued by the small Seattle based label Light in the Attic in 2006. Despite obscurity, Karen Dalton’s 2 albums have gone on to influence songwriters like Nick Cave, Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom. Also featured in this program are Le Trio Joubran, Las Hermanas Caronni, Kayhan Kalhor, Sabicas and a magnificent version of Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez played on harp, Oud and percussion.
