    The horrors of trench warfare and the massive waste of life are well known, but what is less known is the mental toll the so-called Great War had on soldiers. Huge numbers of men experienced extreme psychological problems. 'A War Requiem' looks at what those symptoms were, why they happened and what the military tried to do about it. The program also contrasts this with the role of the modern day soldier and how psychiatric practices have changed to deal with their psychological needs (RNL)
