The highest-ranking Chinese leader to visit New Zealand in seven years is being officially welcomed in Wellington.

Crowds were gathering in welcome before Premier Li Qiang arrived in New Zealand on Thursday morning.
He will receive an official welcome at Government House before meeting Prime Minister Christopher Luxon this afternoon.
His visit comes as regional security concerns begin to overshadow the lucrative trade ties which had until recently dominated the NZ-China relationship.
