One person has died in a house fire in the Christchurch suburb of Hornby.

The fire in Dickson Crescent broke out just before 1pm on Wednesday.

Another person was treated at the scene and didn't need to go to hospital.

Firefighters said the house was well-alight when they arrived, but neighbouring properties were not under threat.

St John said the person was treated at the scene and did not need to go to hospital.

A neighbour who lives two houses down, Omar, saw the house on fire, and said was a big fire and there were lots of flames. He saw people shouting on their street.

More to come...
