The first of four new buildings in central Christchurch that will house hundreds of government workers is nearing completion.
Very few of the original buildings that made up its CBD remain following the earthquakes but the area is now a hive of activity as new office blocks rise from the rubble.
The first stage of the BNZ Centre that runs between Hereford St and Cashel Mall is being fitted out this week and will be ready for 380 public servants to move in from the beginning of next year.
By mid-2017, about 2,000 government employees will be working in the central city from new buildings including the Justice and Emergency Services Precinct.
