The New Zealand-based energy-efficient light bulb company, Energy Mad, has started selling its bulbs through the internet giant, Amazon.
Energy Mad says it will sell three of its spiral compact fluorescent lamps and one reflector LED product through Amazon under its Ecospiral brand.
It plans to expand this product range over time.
Energy Mad managing director Chris Mardon says his company will be concentrating on developing more funding relationships with local electricity utilities to lower the cost of its bulbs to consumers - it currently has funding relationships with 30 utilities.
"The key thing for us is that when you stick light bulbs on shelves either in a supermarket or online you sell some, but when you can lower the price and you can drive consumers into that store or online you can sell an awful lot more."
Mr Mardon says subsidies from utilities can lower the price of a pack of three bulbs from nearly $US11 down to about $US4 which compares to about $US1 each for incandescent bulbs.
