The number of employers looking for staff continues to rise with the number of job ads up 24 percent on pre-Covid highs.
The BNZ/Seek employment report shows ads for full-time and part-time jobs hit another record in June rising more than 1 percent the month before.
The number of ads was up more than 37 percent on the year earlier -- when the country emerged from the first round of lockdowns.
"But if you look at the longer term trends I think the key point is that job advertising is 24 percent above pre-Covid highs. So, it is very strong, that tells us that the labour market is humming along quite nicely," BNZ senior economist Doug Steel said.
The demand for staff was across the country and in nearly all sectors of the economy, with demand strongest in West Coast, Waikato and Otago.
White collar jobs, such as administration, management, architecture, government and defence, as well as human resources and recruitment were in strong demand.
Steel said that the recent survey of business confidence by the Institute of Economic Research indicates the demand for labour was leading to wage pressures.
"The number of jobs out there judging by these job ads is plentiful, so employees certainly have lots to choose from and I guess looking at other surveys like the quarterly survey of business opinion earlier this week, labour turnover has lifted substantially so there is movement within the labour market occurring, and it's likely that that will come with higher wages," he said.
