Breast cancer awareness funds raised
The Seva Charitable Trust, in association with the Indian Global Business Chamber Organisation, held an event to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation in Auckland in June.
Attended by politicians, community leaders and health professionals, the event called on women to get their mammograms because "early detection saves lives".
A cheque worth $3,000 was presented to Breast Cancer Foundation NZ chief executive Ah-Leen Rayner at the event.
Telangana Formation Day celebrated in Auckland
The New Zealand Telangana Central Association and the Telangana New Zealand Association celebrated the 10th anniversary of Telangana Formation Day in Auckland in June at two separate events. Attendees at both events were treated to songs and dances as well as traditional Telangana food. The organisers of the events also honoured several achievers for their services to the community.
Telangana is India's youngest state, having been carved out of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh on 2 June 2014. The day is celebrated by the state to mark a decades-long struggle to attain statehood.
Matariki celebrated by the Indian community
Two Indian community organisations - Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust and Roopa Aur Aap Charitable Trust - celebrated Matariki at Mount Roskill War Memorial Hall in Auckland in June.
"The event brought together over 200 seniors, dignitaries and community leaders to commemorate this significant occasion," the Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust wrote in a post on social media.
"The celebration began with morning tea, prayers and birthday celebrations, setting a warm and inviting tone for the day," the group said. "This was followed by heart-warming performances from the children of Bal Vikas cultural classes, who captivated the audience with their cultural displays and speeches, highlighting the importance of Matariki and its significance in the Māori culture. ... A standout moment was the mesmerising performance of Kapa Haka by a Māori group."
