The number of people diagnosed with HIV in New Zealand has increased.
But the Otago University medical school says even though last year's figures were up on 2011 they are still lower than any year since 2003.
Of the 124 cases recorded in 2012, 90 were men, including two who were thought to have become infected through injecting drugs.
One child was diagnosed after being infected from their mother during birth.
Pakeha comprised 44% of people diagnosed last year, Maori almost 5% and Asian more than 22%.
