Sixty-five people have accepted the Government's offer of a titular honour.
The previous government scrapped the titles of knights and dames in 2000, saying it was in line with the recommendations of an advisory committee on the honours system.
But in March, the Government announced it would reinstate titles in the New Zealand honours system.
Eighty-five New Zealanders who were appointed Principal and Distinguished Companions of the New Zealand Order of Merit were given the option of accepting a title.
Prime Minister John Key says 65 have taken up the offer, while 10 declined and 10 did not respond to the offer.
