A new smartphone application gives boaties easy access to information before heading out onto the water.
Called Marine Mate, the app is free to download. It was developed with funding from ACC, Maritime New Zealand and regional councils.
Waikato Regional Council says the app covers every region and features both national maritime laws and local by-laws.
The information includes tide times, the locations of boat ramps, and appropriate areas for water sports such as jet-skiing and kayaking.
The council says the Marine Mate app will be particularly useful for someone visiting an area where they do not know the conditions.
