Commuters in Christchurch are likely to experience traffic jams again in the central city on Wednesday as post-earthquake road works continue.
Central city streets have been heavily congested for the past two days during rush hour in both the morning and the late afternoon.
Christchurch City Council is advising people to drive outside the peak hours if they can.
Transport manager John Mackie says the congestion was less on Tuesday morning than on Monday.
He says most of the council's central city roading work will be completed this year.
Mr Mackie says motorists need to plan their drives to avoid the construction.
