The Prime Minister's chief science adviser has been appointed to lead an international fight against childhood obesity.
At the World Health Assembly in Geneva on Monday Sir Peter Gluckman was named as the co-chair of a new commission.
Sir Peter will co-chair the commission with a former Pakistan minister of science and education, Sania Nishtar.
The commission includes other international science experts who will contribute to a report on childhood obesity by early 2015.
Sir Peter and Dr Nishtar say the solutions to obesity are complex as there are many biological and behavioural situations to consider.
In dealing with the growing world problem, the scientists say they'll have to consider the potential role of obesity interventions that could come before conception and through childhood.
