10 year passport proposal

A man who petitioned to scrap five year passports is pleased the Government will look at reverting to 10-year passports.

A parliamentary select committee has recommended the Government re-introduce 10-year passports, saying there is no evidence five-year passports have reduced fraud.

Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne said he will now seek advice from his Department about options for extending the validity period.

Kyle Lockwood submitted a petition last year to scrap five-year passports, which were introduced in 2005.

He said he was very happy with the committee's recommendations.
