An organisation representing Maori working in television and film is questioning TVNZ's long-term commitment to Maori and Pacific following a decision to contract out programmes.
The state broadcaster wants outside production houses to take over Waka Huia, Marae, Fresh and Tagaata Pasifika.
But the board of Nga Aho Whakaari says it does not accept Television New Zealand's reason for outsourcing these shows, saying the Maori programmes are fully funded by Te Mangai Paho.
A board member, Lanita Ririnui-Ryan, said that programme provides TVNZ with a return on its investment.
Ms Ririnui-Ryan questioned the timing of the plans - one month after the general election, with little or no consultation.
