A Rotorua man has been charged with criminal nuisance over a power cut that caused a Taupo woman's ventilator to fail.
The 21-year-old man has been charged after a car was driven into a street sign and three power poles in January this year.
Police said local woman Fai Deane died later that morning after her ventilator failed because of the power cut.
Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Cranshaw said a charge of criminal nuisance has been identified as the most appropriate, after interviewing witnesses.
The man will appear in the Taupo District Court tomorrow.
