Police in Auckland are asking for help to identify a man who was the last person to be seen with a woman before she was viciously assaulted.

They said the attack happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The woman endured what the police described as a "very disturbing, nasty attack", waking up in a quarry in Riverhead, finding herself injured and a man standing over her with a bat.
They said the woman, who was extremely traumatised, had been treated for serious gashes to her head and face and a broken thumb.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby said the woman had previously been with a group of friends at the Pride Parade on Ponsonby Road.
"They were enjoying themselves and at some stage it looks like she's sort of met a chap, and this is all about 10.20pm, when she last sort of recalls what happened and then she's got a major memory blank and comes to at the quarry at Riverhead."
Mr Libby said CCTV footage reveals a man in his 30s and of solid build was with the woman before the attack.
He was asking anyone who might know who the man was to contact police.
