A Hastings doctor has been found guilty of stupefying and indecently assaulting male patients.
David Kang Huat Lim faced 13 charges of stupefying and indecently touching four men, aged between 18 and 30, while he was working at a medical centre in Hastings, in 2014.
The jury at the Napier District Court found him guilty on 10 charges; five of indecent assault against three patients and five of disabling through sedation.
The prosecution argued Lim inappropriately used the sedative midazolam to take advantage of the men, who had only minor ailments.
But the defence said the drug was known to cause hallucinations, and because Lim was overtly gay, the men imagined they had been touched inappropriately and came to believe it.
