Police are investigating whether a man who was found dead on a street in Wairoa was hit by a car.
The 33-year-old was found on Black Street about 5am on Sunday.
Police are trying to identify him.
Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford said the scene examination was completed yesterday and police believed the man was hit by a vehicle.
He said it was likely the car had damage to the front of it.
Police were waiting for the results of a post-mortem and were talking to a number of people who were at a 21st birthday party on nearby Ngamotu Road on Saturday night.
