The operator of the Remarkables ski field has launched a review of its power supply after suffering three major power cuts in five weeks.

The ski field close to Queenstown could not open until 12pm yesterday because of a fault in an electricity supply line connector.

In early June the field lost power when a possum chewed a cable, and it had to close for two days late last month when an underground cable failed.

In total the field has lost three-and-a-half days of operations.

NZ-Ski's Remarkables manager, Ross Lawrence, said the timing had been terrible.

"I am as frustrated as anybody and we don't anticipate going through this process again, we'd like to think that we've got good supply power here, but we are in the bigger picture, obviously, looking at our infrastructure in that area and there's a bit of a discussion to go on about any improvements we can make in the future."

Mr Lawrence said the ski field has bought a back-up generator but it will take at least a month to install.
