Two people are missing after a car was driven into a lake in the Christchurch suburb of Halswell.
Passers-by discovered the car in the Westlake Reserve earlier this evening.
Police and fire officers have gone into the lake to check the vehicle.
The Police National Dive Team will arrive in Christchurch tomorrow to search the lake. Police said officers and other emergency services have been in the area and were working to establish what happened and they were also speaking to witnesses.
A scene guard will be in place overnight, police said.
