A person has died in a glider crash near Kaikohe in Northland.
Maritime NZ's rescue coordination centre were called at 5.30pm after a glider that left the Kaikohe Airfield earlier in the afternoon was reported missing.
They said a helicopter found the crashed glider just over 3km west of the airfield about 7pm.
They then handed over to police and Civil Aviation Authority.
Police said the one person on board had been killed.
A spokesperson said work was under way to piece together what has happened.
